Lee Armfield, PhD

Manager, London

Lee is a London-based manager who joined Deallus after finishing his PhD in Oncology at Oxford University. Lee also holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biochemistry from University of Nottingham and progressed in a fairly short time from an associate position to being a consultant.

Since joining Deallus, Lee has successfully managed and delivered a wide range of engagements for top-tier pharmaceutical clients across various therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology and infectious diseases. He has helped clients develop their global strategic initiatives in different oncology indications through all stages of the lifecycle portfolio. He draws upon his deep technical knowledge to position his teams as valuable thought partners to distil the ‘so what’ for clients.

What sparked your interest in consultancy and life sciences?

After doing a PhD I wanted to stay close to life sciences but not in a research position. Consulting allowed me to keep the problem-solving aspect which I enjoyed, but with a faster-paced and more tangible impact than research provided.

What was something exciting you worked on previously?

During my PhD part of my research included investigating the mechanism of a potential new oncology drug, which during my time at Deallus I have seen progress into late-stage clinical trials.

What sparked your interest in consultancy and life sciences?

The relatively small size of the company meant I could have an impact on projects from the beginning, and the people were a huge motivating factor.

What do you consider your strengths?

Opportunities to learn new areas or new skills, new technologies like digital health, impactful projects with key stakeholders.
